5 Pro-Tips for Buying an Engagement Ring

A wedding ring is a simple piece of jewellery, but finding just the right ring is not so simple. It represents your wedding life and needs utmost care while selecting one. When you buy an engagement ring, you need to make sure you’re not getting ripped off, find the right colour, shape, and size. All of this can seem overwhelming and we do understand that. That’s the reason we have these 5 pro-tips to find the right wedding ring:

  1. First things first - Budget

There’s an age-old saying that to buy the perfect engagement ring you need to save-up 3 months of your salary. This is neither false nor true as it depends on the situation. You may be able to save up money and buy the ring with a month’s salary or, it may take you more than 3 months or more.

The point of this saying is to keep a budget in mind before buying a ring that is too expensive for you. Diamonds, as we know are the most popular and expensive choice for an engagement ring. A great alternative to diamonds, are White Saffire or Lab-made diamonds. These stones share all the properties and characteristics of a diamond and are quite affordable too. If you are not interested in purchasing a diamond ring, gold rings are always there as a backup.

  1. You might need to be sneaky with this one - Ring Size

You've been planning the perfect proposal and everything is going just right - right up until the moment you slide across the ring and it doesn’t fit. Ah, the horror!

The biggest mistake most people do is to buy a ring without confirming the size. You need to be stealthy about finding your lover’s ring-size. You can’t just directly ask your partner - that ruins the surprise. To help you with, here are a few tips to know your partner’s ring size without their notice:

  1. Pretend that you are planning to buy a ring for your mother or your sister and that you need your partner’s help.

  2. Ask her friend’s help. This is a brilliant trick if your partner’s friend has good acting skills!

  3. Take any of her ring which closely matches to her ring finger’s size and go shop for a real engagement ring!

  4. Hold your partner’s hand and compare her ring finger to yours and see if any of your fingers closely match to her ring finger. This is quite the hard way, but if you manage to find the closest match, then it’s your win!

  5. Take her ring which closely matches to her ring finger. Place the ring on a paper and draw the inner and outer circle of the ring. Most jewellers can find the ring size based on this.

  1. Shop Smart

You spend a good amount of your money, only to find out that the diamond ring you bought broke. Nobody like’s getting ripped off and that's why you need to remember the 2 C’s - Credentials and Certifications.

Here in India, the government recognises the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) Hallmark as the gold standard. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and IGI (International Gemological Institute) are globally recognised standards for diamonds. Ask your Jeweller for these credentials and certifications before you make your purchase. Buying from reputed Jewellers saves you the hassle of worrying about certifications and credentials.

  1. Don't forget the - Ring Box

It's the little things that make happy moments, not the grand events.

Finding the right ring box is both simple and impactful. A personalised message or both your initials carved on a wooden box is a sure way to make your partner fall in love all over again before they even see what’s inside. You're not short on options when it comes to finding a ring box, be it wooden or contemporary, there’s something for everyone's style and preference

  1. Be different and GO Green!

Not only does diamond mining pollute the environment but also affects the miner's health. Help the environment by buying lab-made diamonds. They are made in labs and have a very low carbon footprint. They look, feel, and share similar properties as real diamonds. What makes lab-made diamonds a better alternative is the fact that they are quite affordable and eco-friendly.
